Forsett signs

The first of the Seahawks' draft-choice dominoes has fallen, as Justin Forsett signed what is believed to be a four-year contract. The running back from Cal was a seventh-round in April's NFL draft.

To clear a roster spot for Forsett, rookie cornerback Donovan Alexander was released.

Because of the 80-man roster limit this year, with the demise of NFL Europe and the roster exemptions for players allocated to the spring league, the Seahawks will have to release a player each time they sign a draft choice.

Here's the release from the team:

The Seattle Seahawks signed running back Justin Forsett to a multi-year deal, the team announced this afternoon.

Forsett, drafted with the first of two seventh round picks (233rd overall) from California in this year's draft, becomes the first draft pick signed by Seattle.

To make room on the roster, the Seahawks released cornerback Donovan Alexander. Alexander originally signed with Seattle as an undrafted rookie free agent on April 27.

Hmmmmm, more reason to think Mo is the odd man out in the RB mix. Forsett can be penciled in on the practice squad now that he's signed. Jones, Duckett and Weaver are locks obviously, there's no way they'd carry 4 guys in the backfield on the regular season roster. I don't see any logical way that Morris makes the team, they should cut him now to give the rest of the guys more reps and give him a chance to sign with someone.

No way Mo gets cut- Forsett's too small to even think about playing, Duckett's probably going to share time with weaver at fullback and be a short yardage back. Jones isn't the time of back who can go out and run every down, and I expect to see some formations similar to the ones the giants used last season. Our glaring weakness is our pass game. We have a couple of mediocre receivers, an injured deon branch, and a hole bunch of inexperienced recievers. I say a big thank you to trufant for crying about his contract and aiding in the loss of hackett. John carlson's a joke and i don't think he'll even have pollard numbers. Still, playing in the mighty NFC west, the 'Hawks go 11-5 make it to the confrence championship and lose to Dallas.

We'll see, I'm not anti-Mo by any means I just don't see him on the team this year.
I wouldn't say "Forsett is too small to think about playing" given Ruskell doesn't care about size and he drafted Warrick Dunn in Tampa Bay and had great success with, even signed him when he went to Atlanta.

There is no way they carry less than 3 considering Duckett, Jones, nor Forsett have proven themselves in a Hawks uni, yet.

The most glaring need for the Seahawks is WR, but talking to Clare Farnsworth on my radio show, management seems extremely high on Courtney Taylor. Look for Taylor to be a big contributor this season. After where the Seahawks have been and where they are now since Tim Ruskell has taken over, I believe in the front office and their evaluation of talent.

Training camp is an opportunity for the coaches to see holes that need be filled after giving guys the chance to "man up" and earn a spot. I would keep an eye out for training camp casualties at WR moving forward.

Personally, giving Koren Robinson a chance again may pay big given the glaring weakness on the offensive side of the ball. A one-year deal seems fair with a club option and behavioral clauses.

If Seattle can play through the long road trips to the east coast, they can easily win this division. If they struggle, December could be a key month. It'll be a two dog race with Seattle and Arizona for the NFC West title.

TheFan12,
the only point I respectfully disagree with on is the two-dog race. I lived in St. Louis (the most wishy-washy fans in the World, btw) for almost 10 years and at this moment they appear to be rebulding; but they still have a formidable Offense as long as M. Bulger is functional....Don't get me wrong, I hate them to High Heaven, but I don't sleep on them. I think because of our success running the West for the last four years, we got big bull's eyes on our jerseys now, so we gotta play everybody in the Div hard and show No Mercy. If we can jump out to a 4-1 or 5-2 Lead, and not choke down the stretch we'll be okay.
