Then there were two

The Seahawks have gotten contract agreements from defensive tackle Red Bryant and fullback Owen Schmitt, their fourth- and fifth-round picks in April's NFL draft.

There will be no official word on the transactions, however, until the contracts have been signed and received by the club. That's team policy. But the agreements have been confirmed by other sources.

With Bryant and Schmitt agreeing to terms, the team has only two rookies left to sign: First-round pick Lawrence Jackson, a defensive lineman from USC; and second-round pick John Carlson, a tight end from Notre Dame.

It's about time we get a frickin' update. I haven't heard anything forever from this site on the hawks!

Yeah, pretty light on the info lately, but it is the doldrums of the sports calendar.

Besides, this is Progville Seattle fellahs, I blame PETA. I hear that they're organizing an all-star demonstration even now to put us collectively in our places for degrading and defaming the noble seahawk by using it as a mascot for a blatantly militaristic game which glorifies competition and violence. I hear Sean Penn, Michael Moore, Susan Sarandon, Nancy Pelossi and a dozen models will be flying in to try and convince the area to pass a bill banning football and baseball and replacing it with big league bocci ball and rythmic gymnastics. Of course, this is only the warm up for next years big push to get us to stop fishing for the poor downtrodden and much pursecuted salmon and promote kelp gathering in its place...

Eh, what the hell... I hear that nibbling on roasted, low-fat, low sodium kelp, sipping on a carob soy shake whilst sitting in a stadium on a sunny day taking in bocci or rhythmic gymnastics is an experience not soon to be forgotten!

I think "hell" might be a succinct way to summarize the experience actually.

D'oh! I made a religious allusion! I'm hopeless! That's it, bring on the micro-brew, the burgers, the pizza and the pigskin! ;-)

Choctaw, over and out...

I'm sorry. I'd hate to get Clare in hot water with the "beautiful people". I forgot to mention that the Nancy & the Hollywood types will be bicycling in while the models figure to be blown in by any light breeze blowing in this general direction...

Sorry Clare. Go ahead and sick them on me if they bawl, berate or bray at you buddy!

Choctaw...over and out for real...mostly...

Perhaps he was on vacation? Just a thought...

The Schmitt deal had been rumored by Profootballscout.com. I was just waiting confirmation from Clare or Danny Brown or the Tribune. Good to hear it from reliable sources. Let's get this quest for 08 on the road!

Correction: The Schmitt and Bryant signings were reported, not rumored, by Scout.com well before this "exclusive". It appears that the P-I refuses to acknowledge the hard work of others unless it comes from an "official" source.

A bit harsh, considering that their draft stature made the signings to be almost automatic. Clare was obviously taking a break before the start of training camp and this kind of activity wouldn't warrant close monitoring in my opinion. The agreements can be reported or rumored, but until the contracts are signed the players haven't been, well uh, signed. When that happens the Seahawks make an announcement and it is official.

Looking forward to Owen. He's basically Jay Buhner as a football player.

Haven't signed up but will-address all venom to japanjohnny

Yeah, 10-4 japanjohnny, this is the doldrums right now, no good stuff (meaning exciting football news...i.e any and all camp tidbits) just scooby snacks. I doubt Clare has great deal to work with right now. Even signing our 1st rounder this year won't exactly be earth shaking or deeply insightul and revelatory. Don't get me wrong, he could be very good and it's always a plus to get your guys signed... But we've got a couple of very good defensive ends and the real meat and potatoes (sorry to all you vegan types!) will be Big Mike's last season and what the team looks like under him for his swan song.

Next, will our new left guard "The Big W" FINALLY help create a wall on that side, and will Spencer arrive now that his 3rd season is upon him, which is about where most good centers start to come in to their own (anyone remember developing Mawae only to lose him just as he erupted into a perennial pro-bowler?). THen, just for fun is the Porkchop Watch; how long (my money is on 2nd session, 1st day, of two-a-days) till he's injured and out for the season...;-)

Defensively the thing I'm most excited about is to see if Bryant is the run stopping, gap-plugging, space occupying machine I'm hoping he'll be. One solid Cortez Kennedy-like fixture up front and this defense turns us into a beast. It'll be kind of interesting to see if we turn into physical defense-1st threat after all these years rather than an offensive threat.

Okay, Owen Schmitt could be really exciting too, a modern Czonka would be a blast to watch!

"Choctaw Kid" what are you babbling about? How do you bring politics into draft pick signings? There are plenty of other places to spout political ignorance on this very site. By the way I'm a Choctaw descendant, not a kid though, and don't appreciate you bringing the nation into it.
Clare, the intel has been a little light. How 'bout telling us who they cut to sign these guys and maybe a little write up about the 'Hawks feelings about the 80 man roster limit?

Hey DB-

I'm also of the blood. Let's not get into a childish and pedantic "I'm more black than you" match. And by "Nation" I'm assuming you're refering to our traditional connection to the Cherokee nations. Your response reinforces everything I toss out about so many people in the new Seattle. It's almost impossible to separate Seattle's social politics from the sports scene. Dring your soy latte & chill. Life shouldn't be that tuff.
