Travel writers are prepared when they hit the road

One veteran travel writer says when she is on a trip, there are three things she always carries (in addition to credit cards):
- A photocopy of the opening page of her passport, which she carries separate from her passport.
- A minuscule screwdriver designed to repair sunglasses or eyeglasses.
- A corkscrew.
- Good walking shoes
- Plastic zip-lock bags
- Immodium (the most widely recommended antidote to diarrhea)
- Photocopies of prescriptions for medicines and eyeglasses you can't do without
- A Swiss Army knife (the ubiquitous do-it-all tool)
- A pocket flashlight
- Spare camera batteries
- Your address book
- Photocopies of all credit cards (carry them with the copy of the page from your passport)
- Converter plugs for various power outlets
- Band-Aids
- Dental floss
