Ravenna Park was named for Ravenna, Italy, and was a popular getaway from Seattle. A trolley line led to the park. Originally a for-profit park -- charging 24 cents admission -- the area became part of the city's parks system in 1911.

This vintage photo captures recess time at Ravenna School, which was built in 1911. The structure, at 6545 Ravenna Ave. N.E., was demolished in 1981.
