• The University District Farmer's Market is open Saturday morning through Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The bustling market offers fresh produce, flowers, bread, honey and other local delectables. Guest chef cooking demonstrations begin at 10 a.m. The schedule includes: Laura Dewell from Pirosmani today; Ciro Pasciuto and Luca Pisauri from La Panzanella and Il Gufo (Perguia, Italy) on Oct. 4; Catherine Geier of Cafe Flora on Oct. 11; and Walter Bronowitz of Edmonds Community College on Oct. 18. The market is at the University Heights Community Center playground, Northeast 50th and University Way.

  

• The Henry Art Gallery reopened in April after a two-year renovation and expansion created by New York architect Charles Gwathmey. The gallery, which showcases modern and contemporary art, is worth a visit for the architecture alone. Current shows include "The Blue Four: Klee, Kandinsky, Jawlensky and Feininger" through Oct. 5 and "Sculpture From the Jon and Mary Shirley Collection," through Sept. 28. At the western edge of the University of Washington campus at 15th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 41st Street. Admission is $5; $3.50 students and seniors; free Thursdays, 5-8 p.m., for college and high school students and children 13 and under. • The Burke Museum will reopen Nov. 23, transformed into a hands-on, experiential natural history museum. New permanent exhibits will include "The Life and Times of Washington State," a geological trip through the region from nothingness to the present, and "Pacific Voices," showcasing the stories, cultures, traditions, ceremonies, languages and artifacts of 17 cultures represented in Puget Sound today.

• The Wizards of the Coast Game Center may be the coolest spectacle to blast onto the Ave in years. It's the first game center for the Renton-based company best known for creating the trading card game Magic: The Gathering. The two-story gaming palace includes a BattleTech virtual reality center with 12 interactive simulator pods, a cutting-edge video game and pinball arcade, a "War Room" designed for computer-network games and a huge tournament center. • The Grand Illusion is Seattle's only independently owned, non-profit art film venue. For the occasional flick fan, upcoming films include "Through the Olive Trees," by Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami, Sept. 26 through Oct. 9, and the 1967 black-and-white adaptation of Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood," Oct. 10-15.
