Seattle P-I Plus Getaways: Laptop Lane plugs into need for airport office center

POST-INTELLIGENCER NEWS SERVICES

Laptop Lane, a new company operating office centers at airports, is preparing to open officially at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on June 25.

A spokesman said yesterday that the facility is already available on a "soft opening" basis, while all systems are being checked to make sure there are no bugs.

You'll find the Sea-Tac location in the central terminal. To reach it, go to the very middle of the airline ticket counters, then take the walkway that goes farther into the terminal, toward the runways, between concourses B and C. Laptop Lane's facilities will be on your right, in an area where there's a Seafirst branch, a Starbucks facility and a Marriott restaurant.

This will be the second location for the Seattle-based company. The first, at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, opened in May. An Atlanta center is planned for this fall, with centers at another seven airports expected to be open or under construction by the end of the year.

Open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., the centers contain private, individual offices, each equipped with a Micron desktop computer, connections for a traveler's laptop, access to a high-speed Internet line, a laser printer, a plain-paper fax machine and a multi-line phone.

Each office has a glass door that can be locked. The cost is $8.95 per half hour, with extra fees for long-distance calls or long-distance faxes. (Local calls and faxes are free.) Additional services, for a charge, include black-and-white or color copying and a color laser printer. For now, the service is on a first-come, first-served basis.
