Things to do while you're here

Originally published Saturday, April 4, 1998

If you're visiting, check out these spots:

  • Ed Munro Seahurst Park -- Looking for a beautiful park with trails through wooded areas, lots of picnic space and a beach with beautiful views of Puget Sound? This is the place, and most of the time it's not crowded. Turn west on Southwest 144th Street off of Ambaum Boulevard. Then turn right on 13th Avenue Southwest; that will lead you to the park. Open 8 a.m. to dusk. No fee.

  • Burien Community Computer Center -- The year-old computer center, 653 S.W. 152nd St., offers Highline Community College classes in one section and an open area for people who want access to a computer. Volunteers are on hand to explain how to work the computers, produce job resumes and even surf the Net. Hours: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Closed Sunday. Fees: $1 an hour; free for those who can't afford to pay.

  • Burien Arts Gallery -- This small, converted house at the intersection of Fourth Avenue Southwest and Southwest 146th Street is tucked in woods next to Burien Park. The gallery, selling work by local and Northwest artists, is run by the non-profit Burien Arts Association. Hours: Noon to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

  • Lake Burien -- Nice old homes line the shores of Lake Burien, a 43-acre lake roughly bounded by Southwest 146th Street on the north, Southwest 160th Street on the south, 21st Avenue Southwest on the west and 11th or 12th Avenue Southwest on the east. There's no public boating access to the lake.
