From the simplest bet to the more complicated, Emerald Downs will offer a wide selection of wagering options.

    Win
If you bet a horse to win, he has to finish first for you to collect. If the horse finishes second, you lose.

Place If you bet a horse to place, he can finish either in first or second place and you collect on your winning ticket on the place payoff.

Show If you bet a horse to show, he can finish either in first, second or third place and you collect your winnings on the show payoff.

Daily double In this bet, you must pick the winners of two consecutive races to have a winning ticket. Usually, this is the first and second race. Sometimes, a track also will offer a late daily double that requires you to pick the winners of the final two races of the program.

Exacta To win this bet you have to pick the first two finishers of one race in the exact order they finish.

Trifecta A progression from the exacta, in this bet you have to pick the first three finishers of one race in the exact order they finish.

Superfecta This bet progresses one more step. To win this bet you have to pick the first four finishers of one race in the exact order they finish.

Pick three This wager is like the daily double, but you have to pick the first-place horse in three straight races.

Pick six In this bet you must pick the first-place horse in six straight races. Because of the difficulty of the bet, many times there is no ticket that has the six straight winners. In that event, the tickets that have five of the six first-place horses collect a consolation payoff from a portion of the Pick Six pool.

Carryover pool The remainder of the Pick Six pool goes into a carryover, which can form a jackpot worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. The carryover, like the Lotto, builds until someone has all six first-place horses on a ticket.
